Couples Therapy

Would we not all agree that intimate relationships are hard work. Like cars, they require regular maintenance to keep them running well. So if there is a problem, you want to have things repaired immediately to avoid further issues.

There are times we are able to do the basic maintenance and repairs ourselves. Other times, therapy for couples with the help of a qualified therapist may be the best for the relationship.

My focus in couples counselling is to improve the relationship and conflict resolution between couples. Whether face-to-face or online sessions the ultimate goal is to help build a healthy relationship and solve any possible issues.

The goal of couples counselling can vary based on the specific needs of the couple, here are some common objectives:-

  • Communication Improvement: many relationship issues stem from poor communication.  Couples counselling can help partners learn effective communication skills, including active listening and expressing themselves clearly and empathetically.
  • Conflict Resolution: It is normal for couples to have disagreements and conflicts.  I am able to guide you to develop healthy ways to resolve conflicts without escalating into hurtful arguments.
  • Problem-Solving: Provide a structured environment for couples to work together to identify and solve problems that could be impacting your relationship.
  • Understanding Patterns: I can help couples to recognise negative patterns of behaviour and communication that may be contributing to their problems.  Identifying these patterns is the first step in changing them.
  • Rebuilding Trust: If trust has been eroded due to infidelity or other breaches, I am able to help couples rebuild trust through open dialogue and steps towards forgiveness and healing.
  • Intimacy and Connection: Couples counselling can address issues related to emotional and physical intimacy, helping partners reconnect and deepen their bond.
  • Healthy Boundaries: Establishing and respecting boundaries is essential in any relationship.  Counselling can assist couples in setting and maintaining healthy boundaries.
  • Preventing Future Issues: Through couples counselling you are both able to develop skills to prevent future conflicts and navigate challenges more effectively.
